The Temple of Heaven!
Miss is so super thrilled.
The crowds.
Details.
Detail of the roof of one of the other buildings.
See the animals marching to the tip of the corner of the roof?
*****
At a park out in Beijing.
So love that the seniors are out en masse in the park!
Seniors, seniors everywhere, living their best lives: playing practicing tai chi, playing hacky sack, exercising, even singing opera. I want to be like that some day.

Seen around Beijing: buildings from the most recent Beijing Olympics

Statues in the Summer Imperial Palace...
These two statues stand in tribute to the Empress Dowager Cixi who in particular devoted much energy to the building of this luxury estate. Cixi was always the Empress-Dowager and never the true Emperor, always power adjacent, but never technically in power. She was in reality quite powerful and was responsible of deposing Emperor that displeased here, however she never was given the official seat of power - the Emperor's seat. Here the dragon statue holds its paw out in supplication - a representation of Male Power at the mercy of the female power of the Empress-Dowager. At the same time, the phoenix statue stands over a hoard of plentitude, and stands as a representation of the true seat of power, that of the Empress-Dowager herself.
The view from the lakeside.

The walk along the boardwalk of the summer palace was super crowded...
The Fengshui of rocks are valued highly.

First Night Market of the trip!
Candy coated Hawthorne fruits!
They are the fruits from which Haw Flakes are made.
Yum!
Osmanthus in cake form!
The name sake of this Night Market was the Fish Market because it was historically a fish market first. Now it functions as a tourist night market, exclusively.
