To China, Hong Kong and back! Part III: Yangtze River Cruise: Day 3, Estates & Wuling Mountain Great Rift

Exploring around the cruise ship.
First thing in the morning, going through the beautiful fog.
It's early, and before breakfast.

Loving the free space.

***

Finally got this Miss to join me on the gloriously foggy deck.

*****

This morning, I'm going on an excursion.
Miss wants to stay behind and luxuriate in chilling out.
We get to walk ashore.

*****

Visiting historic grounds, that include a museum, monastery, and old style estates for a family's three sons that have since been donated to the state.

Collecting water is akin to collecting money.

The entrance to a former monestary/temple

In the temple about to see a performance.

Complete with several dances.

***

Museum.

***

One of several scrolls with detailed visions of the levels of hell.

***

The God of Hell, to whom one prays if one wants to stay out of hell.

The "Org-Chart" to hell.
So one knows to whom they need to make their prayers and appeals.

***

An internal courtyard.

Notice the coin shaped design of the drain holes at the bottom of this shallow.
To let all the water run out is to lose money.

***

A very scenic rock.
Reminiscent of the type of mountains typical in parts of China.

***

Also seen...
A Bridal sedan.

Banquet hall.

***

***

A beautiful pond.

***

The middle son's estate.

***

Pond

***

Onto the oldest son's estate.
Beautiful calligraphy painting in entrance hall

***

Into the courtyard.
The carved windows are much more intricate and painted in gold paint.

***

In home temple.
Prayers and wishes written down on the little red pieces of paper - Buddhist Temple style.  One of the more common theme of wishes: success on upcoming exams.

***

Bannister supports.

Back on the bus!

***

The next leg of our excursion.
A trip to the crevasse of the Wuling Mountain Great Rift.
This is a detailed model of the terrain.
We take first a bus, then a cable car gondola ride, then electric cart.
After we walk the crevasse, we take another cable car back up, where our bus will meet us.

***

Caught our cable car!
Me and the entirety of our excursion group.
It was definitely a gals' trip!

Below, steps leading down to the crevasse, before there were cable cars, one got to make a day of a hike all the way down.  Sounds fun!

Finally made it to the bottom.

The view of the down hill cable car, as we await our electric cart ride.

After one crazy topsy-turvy electric cart ride, we arrive at the bottom of the crevasse, for our constitutional.

Pots integrated into the wall to collect water.
Again, water is like currency, to let it all run off is taboo.

***

The crevasse walk is off to a start, behind me.

Into the cave-like portion.

The crew!

***

The end of a short but sweet hike.

Time to catch the cable car back up!
